The Walking Bike - the Learning Toy With The Wow Factor
When I see the walking bike being used in our park, it warms my heart and really makes me smile. Seeing the bubbly confidence and sheer joy of the children often makes my day. It sometimes puts me in mind of the stark contrast, between that and my efforts when learning to ride a bicycle.
Although it was more years ago than I care to remember, the wobbly progress, constant falls and grazed knees etc., are still pretty vivid in my memories.
No such thing will happen to those lucky little ones, whose parents decide that the walking bike is the right way to get them started.
This is an excellent concept toy; if your child has one of these, they will never need stabilizers and will progress to a two-wheel cycle naturally without stress.
The major problem with stabilizers is that they do not help the child develop balance. Once the child has used them, then it is hard to take them off the cycle. However with this cycle, the child develops balance on two wheels naturally and will be eons ahead of those who used stabilizers. This is because they develop the coordination and motor skills needed, so it really helps to build their self confidence on two wheels.
The bike is extremely safe and tough, so it will be able to be passed on to a younger sibling, or friend, while still looking good and working well. The bike is made from wood but is light at around 8 lbs and has an adjustable seat for height and a washable cotton saddle cover.
Everybody who sees your child on this bike will be impressed with its style and also with their proficiency when riding it. It is one of those examples where it is probably worth paying a little more for a good quality version, as the cheap ones do not last so well and some of them are easily damaged. The wooden version is easy to assemble and adding the rubber handlebar grips can be made easy, if you rub the handlebars with soap first.
I think this is a gift which we, as parents and grandparents, can enjoy every bit as much as the child does. My first bicycle was very important to me, all the more so perhaps, because I had to wait until I was older. This is just not necessary now, as you can get your child started so much sooner. We can also have the fun of watching them learn the basics on this superb walking bike.
This is a gift for all the year round, but what a special present for Christmas this wonderful walking bike would make.
