How much should I sell my Trek 5500 road bike for?
I have a Trek 5500 full carbon road bike with dura-ace,ultegra, and 105 components. I have a set of shimano aluminum rims that came with them (bladed). I also have the Specialized tri carbon rim (rear) and the spenergy 4 spoke carbon rim (front). Very slick looking, I love to just look at this thing. It's got a professionally done maroon paint-job on it. I was thinking around the$3000 range. I couldn't sell it for less than $2700 and be happy. When people pay $3000 for a bike, they would rather pay for a new one. Also, people tend to trust a rarely used bike with original components more. If you really want to sell it, I would part it out. The carbon rims would sell for a nice price. Price also depends on if the group was 9 or 10 speed. I have seen a 9 speed ultegra group sell for less than $300, because they go back to 1998. Also, the maroon Trek 5500's were ~10 years old. I've seen those frames go for ~$300 as well. So I agree that $3000 might be a little optimistic. You might get a better price early summer, but right now, bike stores are having closeouts, which would attract the customers.
